Being an international student in the UK

Blog 1 - Winter

I came to study at Manchester Metropolitan University at September, 2017. I remembered feeling very cold as soon as I got out of Manchester Airport. Accompanied by three of my friends, who has been living in the UK long enough to stand the cold with a thin jacket as mine. They do check up on me that I was feeling alright. I said yes, haha but I was cold to be honest. Thinking back, it was only autumn, the start of the miserable winter, which I would describe. Winter, my least favourite time in the UK when the sun rises late, night starts early and air is freezing cold. The trees are bare under the grey sky. The ground is mostly wet with frequent rain . Surprisingly, people here don't like to use umbrella as much as in my hometown when it rains. Well, the precipitation rate is different, haha. Sunny day is just a matter of luck in the winter, with the sun providing no heat but light, which still makes me happy. I imagine it would snow during winter, but in reality, it rarely occurs. When it does, it is not as pleasant as it portrays in movies and television. The ground is slipped, the traffic is bad, the temperature is colder than ever. However, you can't be excuse from uni or school because it was a bad weather day. Because everyday is the bad weather day in the winter, haha. So, just a matter of adapting to survive. Nevertheless, this is just a description of what Manchester's winter like, which might varies from other places in the UK. So, do consider the weather's condition, when you are coming to the UK for any matter.
